Pony Express Reading
Let a pony lasso your beginning reader (ages 5 and up) into getting excited about reading!
Students will team up with a pony to play non-mounted games with phonics and sight words. This innovative 4-week class will use mind, body and spirit to foster confidence and enjoyment of reading.
Each child will be paired up with his/her own pony partner for each of the four 1-hour sessions. Students will learn how to groom, lead and do basic groundwork with their pony. Every session will include a language game that students will play as a group with their ponies, grooming time, and reading time.
For story
time in Session 1, we will read and discuss Fritz and the Beautiful Horses
by Jan Brett. For sessions 2, 3, and 4, students will bring a book they’d
like to read to their pony. I will supply a bibliography of horse fiction,
but you’re encouraged to let your child choose a book about ANY topic that
interests him/her.
During the week, students may listen to, discuss, and
practice reading their book with their parents to be ready to read it to their
pony partner at the next Pony Express Reading session.
Cost: $100
